I volunteered briefly in a Nursing home when I was a teenager. Just barely out of my teens, I worked at a nursing home in Portland, ME, in the laundry and housekeeping departments. The staff there were constantly trying to get me to sign up and become a CNA, but I found that they didn't get a chance to talk and connect with the residents like I did, because they were overworked and underpaid. I got the opportunity to make friends with a number of the residents because I could talk to them while I was cleaning their rooms or hanging their laundry. I certainly feel I could be very helpful and personable to a single elderly person in their home.
